About the Service

The Co-Location Service supports the hosting of equipment within the JANET backbone. The service offered consists of an initial allocation of rack space, power management and remote console access facilities to equipment. Restrictions on size, weight and power requirements exist due to the nature of the facility. Within the initial allocation of rack space, clients will be able to deploy equipment with a maximum of four power supplies overall. Where clients have specialised requirements in terms of the number of equipment items and their size, weight and power requirements, this will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Co-locations are physically secure, with intruder detection systems, CCTV and card access systems. In addition security personnel guard the facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Clients will be responsible for organising the installation of their equipment at the Co-location Facility, which must be done by qualified personnel.

Each client is provided with a single 100Mbit/s or 10Mbit/s Ethernet connection to JANET. This connection is subject to JANET(UK)'s standard terms and conditions, the JANET Acceptable Use Policy and the JANET Security Policy. Note that clients will be responsible for the network security of their equipment. Physical access to Co-locations is restricted to appropriately qualified individuals.
