Networkshop: History
The first Networkshop was held at the University of Glasgow in 1977. Initially the event was held twice a year and took on the format of an interactive workshop to discuss technical networking issues. However, since 1983 the number of people attending the event has increased making it difficult to organise as a workshop allowing discussion groups on technical issues of the day. The early days when only 50 delegates attended Networkshop have long gone and the event now attracts well over 300 delegates.
In 1991 another major change was made to the event with the addition of an exhibition of commercial suppliers. The exhibition was available to the delegates throughout the event, but delegates were encouraged to attend the exhibition by holding refreshment breaks and drinks receptions in the exhibition area.
Since 1991 the size of the exhibition has increased significantly and there are now in excess of 40 stands at the event and in excess of 100 commercial staff at the workshop. Many commercial organisations see Networkshop as the event to attend if they want to talk to the academic and research community.
