Legal and Regulatory

Those who use and manage JANET and the networks connected to it are subject to a range of policies and laws. This site provides information about some of these that are particularly relevant to network and system managers and their activities.

The JISC Legal Information Service provides a great deal of information on the relevance of legislation to the use of Information Technology in educational organisations. In particular they have recently published a paper on IT Law for FE and HE Senior Management.

Information on current legal developments and JANET(UK)'s work to understand and influence them can be found on our Regulatory Developments blog.

Nothing on any of these sites should be construed as legal advice, or as creating any liability on JANET(UK), the JISC or any other party. Ultimate responsibility for complying with the law rests with institutions and their staff and where necessary they should seek legal counsel.
