JANET and ALT (Association for Learning Technology) will be co-hosting a private debate in Oxford on 12th June 2007.  The debate entitled ‘UK Education is failing to capture the benefits from ICT’ will be held at Christ Church College at Oxford University.

The issue is a contentious one and guaranteed to stir up a range of opinions from the attendees who include senior educational policy makers, learning practitioners and commercial partners.

“Events like these are very important to JANET as they address head on issues which are important to our core user-base, namely education and research.  Such events mean that we are able to tap into a wide pool of expertise and gain insights to the key issues,” says Tim Marshall, CEO of JANET  “We look forward to this event and further developing our relationship with ALT on future projects.”

Seb Schmoller, Chief Executive of ALT said “One of our core aims is to facilitate collaboration between practitioners, researchers, and policy makers. Events such as this are important in order that major players can speak frankly on critical issues which are key to the future of the UK’s educational system.”

Attendees will be welcomed by Seb Scholler of ALT and the motion will be proposed by Professor Bill Dutton of the Oxford Internet Institute and opposed by Merv Stapleton, E-Learning Manger, City of Sunderland College with a summary and close by Tim Marshall.
