JANET(UK) - the new name for UKERNA
The name has changed over the years from its original reference to the Joint Network Team, to UKERNA in 1994 and now JANET(UK). “This closer association with the network brand reinforces our commitment to the research and education community through the continued management and development of JANET” says Tim Marshall JANET(UK)’s CEO. “The change of trading name will cause no disruption to our service; all current contracts with third parties will continue to run as previously. This change is designed to reduce confusion and will simplify things for our customers and consolidate our operations under the powerful JANET brand.”
The introduction of the new name coincides with JANET(UK)’s official move to Lumen house. Professor Sir Ron Cooke today opened the building in a short ceremony attended by board members, special guests and video linked to JANET(UK)’s NOC offices in London. “These changes represent more than a mere name change, but rather, bring to the fore the world-class JANET network and its associated services which, as we know, have a global reputation for excellence and which are central to JISC’s offering to the community and to its services portfolio. We at JISC look forward to the further contribution of JANET(UK) and all its dedicated staff to the support of UK education and research.”
